A Career as a Registered Mental Health Nurse

A Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), also known as a Psychiatric or Mental Health Nurse, is a specialist trained to support individuals with emotional and mental health challenges, as well as their families and communities. With strong interpersonal skills and a deep commitment to helping those experiencing conditions such as depression, anxiety, phobias, eating disorders, substance abuse, and psycho-sexual issues, RMNs work across all age groups in various settings. These include acute hospitals, community services, substance misuse and learning disability services, primary care, prisons, and private psychiatric facilities. RMNs frequently collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals. They are responsible for diagnosing complex mental health conditions, developing treatment plans, and providing tailored support and information to meet each patient’s individual needs.
