A Career as a Registered Mental Health Nurse

A Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), also known as a Psychiatric Nurse or Mental Health Nurse, is a specialist trained to support individuals with emotional and mental health challenges, as well as their families and communities. RMNs possess strong interpersonal skills and a deep commitment to assisting patients dealing with conditions such as depression, anxiety, phobias, eating disorders, substance abuse, and psycho-sexual issues. They work with patients of all ages across diverse settings, including acute hospitals, community services, substance misuse and learning disability services, primary care, prisons, and private psychiatric facilities. Often collaborating with a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals, RMNs diagnose complex mental health conditions, develop treatment plans, and provide tailored support and information to patients and their families, addressing each individual’s specific needs.
